Uganda's national parks reflect the extraordinary diversity of the country's natural resources: fresh water lakes, swamps, mountains, forests, woodland, rolling plains and grassland.

Owing to a variety of habitats with abundant grass, Uganda supports an incredible range of biodiversity including mountain gorillas.

In order to protect and effectively manage these invaluable resources on a sustainable basis, the Uganda National Parks department was established in 1952.

Presently the organisation manages 10 parks.

Located some 470 km from Kampala, in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Mweya Safari Lodge provides a great starting point for a memorable safari into this wilderness, which is a sanctuary and home to hundreds of elephant, buffalo, hippos, leopards, Uganda kob and bush buck and the tree climbing lions.

Mweya Safari Lodge is a full facility lodge - thirty eight double rooms, six single rooms, two suites and a Luxurious Royal Cottage, where Queen Elizabeth II stayed in 1954. All the rooms have attached bathrooms and private balconies which overlook either the Kazinga channel or Lake Edward. The suites and the Royal Cottage are fully air-conditioned.

The Kazinga Channel Restaurant offers international cuisine, an excellent a la carte menu, a buffet dinner and often a barbecue on Saturday nights.
